Body Of Rehoboth Beach Swimmer Found Wednesday

Rehoboth Beach, DE – Just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, rescue crews responded to the beach near Olive Avenue in Rehoboth Beach following reports of a swimmer last seen in the ocean surf.

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department coordinated with multi-agencies in a search effort with support from the United States Coast Guard, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, and Delaware State Police Aviation.

The missing swimmer was described as a Black male in his twenties, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, authorities announced that the active search for the missing swimmer had been suspended.

On Wednesday at approximately 1:30 pm, the body of the swimmer who went missing from Rehoboth Beach was recovered after kayak or reported a body in the water. The swimmer, identified as Gregory Karitu, 27 of Kenya, was found in the water off the coast of Cape Henlopen near Herring Point. There was no foul play suspected in Karitu’s death police said.
