A 24-year-old Delmar man was killed Friday evening following a crash on Bacons Road in western Sussex County.

According to Delaware State Police, a Toyota Tundra was traveling west on Bacons Road, just west of Bi-State Boulevard, at approximately 6:30 p.m., when it entered a left-hand curve. Investigators reported that the pickup left the north edge of the roadway before striking a utility pole and overturning several times.

The driver, who police say was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities said he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Members of the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to examine the scene and gather evidence related to the crash. Utility crews were also brought in to replace the damaged pole.

Bacons Road remained closed for about seven hours while the investigation and repair work took place. State police continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
