MILTON, Del. — Emergency responders are investigating a serious crash that occurred Tuesday morning in Sussex County, resulting in one critically injured patient being flown to the hospital.
At approximately 9:46 a.m., emergency units were dispatched to the intersection of Coastal Highway (Route 1) near the Hudson Fields area, for a reported motor vehicle crash with entrapment. First arriving crews from Milton and Lewes fire departments, along with Sussex County paramedics, confirmed two vehicles involved in the collision with at least one person trapped in the wreckage in the median.
Rescue personnel extricated the patient from one of the vehicles. Due to the severity of the injuries, officials requested Aviation LifeNet to airlift the patient to Christiana Hospital. The individual was suffering from serious injuries. at the time of transport.
Delaware State Police issued a traffic advisory shortly after the incident, confirming that Coastal Highway southbound at Eagles Crest Road was closed to traffic as troopers conducted their investigation and crews cleared the scene. Authorities advised motorists to seek alternate routes to avoid significant delays in the area.
The southbound lanes of Route 1 near Hudson Fields remained closed for an extended period as the crash investigation and cleanup efforts continued.
