Delaware State Police have charged a Wilmington man with vehicular assault, DUI, and felony firearm offenses following a two-vehicle crash early Sunday in Bear.
At approximately 1:01 a.m. on August 10, 2025, troopers responded to Bear-Christiana Road near Christiana Meadows for a reported collision. The investigation determined that 39-year-old Marcus Simpson was operating a Tesla Model Y northbound on Bear-Christiana Road at an apparent high rate of speed.
At the same time, a Honda Insight was exiting Christiana Meadows westbound and turned left to travel southbound on Bear-Christiana Road against a red light. The Tesla struck the Honda, splitting it in half and ejecting the driver.
The Honda’s driver, a 34-year-old New Castle man, sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Simpson was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials said when troopers contacted Simpson at the scene, they detected signs of impairment and located a firearm in his waistband. After medical treatment, Simpson was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged
- Vehicular Assault 1st Degree – Driving Under the Influence Causing Negligent Injury (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm while Under the Influence
- Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of a Combination of Alcohol and Any Drug
- Driving Vehicle at Unreasonable or Imprudent Speed
He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $44,150 secured bond.
