Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Head-On Collision With Tractor Trailer Monday

Middletown, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of one driver and left two others seriously injured early Monday morning.

The collision occurred on September 1, 2025, at approximately 1:40 a.m. when a Kenworth tractor was traveling southbound in the left lane of U.S. Route 301 near Bunker Hill Road. At the same time, a Ford Focus was traveling northbound in the same southbound lane, north of Bunker Hill Road police said. The two vehicles collided head-on.

The driver of the Ford, a 31-year-old man from Elkton, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until authorities notify his family.

The driver of the Kenworth, a 60-year-old man from Yonkers, New York, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. A 62-year-old woman, also from Yonkers and a passenger in the truck, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

U.S. Route 301 southbound remained closed for an extended period as police conducted their investigation and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
