Man Charged In Newark Neighborhood Shooting Incident

Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 36-year-old Jonathon Mead of Middletown following a shots fired incident that occurred in Newark’s Robscott Manor neighborhood.

Officials said on Saturday, October 18, 2025, just after 10:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to the unit block of Sanford Drive in Newark in reference to a report of a suspect firing a gun in the community. The investigation showed that a male suspect known to the victim responded to the victim’s residence, entered the rear yard of the home and fired multiple gunshots police said.

Officers located a scene in the yard consisting of 7 shell casings. Officers were able to identify the suspect as Jonathon Mead (36). Officers ultimately located Mead at his residence in Middletown, Delaware. A search warrant was later executed at the suspect’s home with the assistance of SWAT. Mead was taken into custody, and a firearm was located according to police. Mead was transported to NCCPD headquarters and charged with one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, four felony counts of reckless endangering in the first degree, and one felony count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $87,000 cash bail.
