Man Charged After Checkpoint Search

Delaware State Police arrested 22-year-old Wajahne Leggett of Wilmington on felony drug charges following a DUI checkpoint conducted early Thursday morning in New Castle.

According to police, troopers and partnering agencies were operating a checkpoint organized by the Office of Highway Safety on Wilmington Road near Municipal Boulevard shortly after midnight on November 27, 2025. At approximately 12:15 a.m., a Toyota Camry entered the checkpoint and troopers made contact with the driver, who was identified as Leggett. During the encounter, troopers observed cash and multiple individually packaged bags of suspected marijuana in plain view, consistent with drug sales activity.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 481 grams of suspected marijuana and $1,230 in suspected drug proceeds, police said. Leggett was taken into custody and transported to the New Castle City Police Department, where he was charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony, and possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity, also a felony.

Leggett was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $3,000 unsecured bond. The investigation remains under the authority of the Delaware State Police.
