A 35-year-old Delaware man has been arrested and charged with 25 felony counts of Dealing in Child Pornography, according to an announcement from Attorney General Kathy Jennings.
Samuel Birer was taken into custody following an investigation led by the Delaware Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which includes members of the Delaware State Police and the Delaware Department of Justice. The investigation began after the task force received multiple CyberTips generated by Google indicating that accounts associated with Birer contained Child Sexual Abuse Material. Investigators subsequently executed search warrants on those accounts, which authorities say revealed additional material.
Attorney General Jennings described the evidence uncovered in the investigation as shocking and emphasized the importance of protecting children, crediting the task force for its work on the case.
Prosecutors said that there is no evidence at this time indicating that the alleged crimes involved direct contact with a child or that there are any known victims affiliated with the local community.
Birer was arraigned and committed to the Sussex County Correctional Institution on $625,000 cash bail. The Delaware Department of Justice and Delaware State Police noted that the charges are allegations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
