Officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 9:16 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2024, in the 8000 block of Park Court at the Paladin Club Apartments.
According to investigators, an altercation occurred outside the apartment complex that resulted in a 15-year-old female being struck by gunfire. A 44-year-old female also sustained a minor injury caused by debris related to the shooting.
The 15-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to her lower body. Officers at the scene rendered immediate medical aid until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and is listed in stable condition.
The 44-year-old female was evaluated at a local hospital as a precaution and was later released.
Police reported that during the incident, 16-year-old Jacob Nieves was in the area and fled following the altercation. Detectives stated there is no indication at this time that he was injured; however, he has not returned to his residence, and his family has expressed concern for his well-being. The investigation remains ongoing.
