Police: Man Tied To Two Road Rage Incidents Involving Gun

A Wilmington man has been arrested by Delaware State Police in connection with two separate road rage incidents involving a firearm along Route 1, according to investigators.

Authorities said the first incident occurred on February 6, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., when troopers were dispatched to the area of Route 1 near Wrangle Hill Road in New Castle for reports of a road rage encounter. The investigation determined that two individuals traveling northbound encountered a gray SUV being driven erratically. Following a brief verbal exchange, the driver of the SUV allegedly pointed a handgun at the victims before leaving the area. Troopers obtained a description of both the vehicle and the suspect.

A second incident was reported on March 10, 2026, at approximately 5:40 a.m., when troopers responded to southbound Route 1 near Exit 119 for a shooting. Investigators said a suspect driving a light gray crossover-style SUV fired a weapon, striking a black BMW twice. The driver, a 46-year-old Delaware man, and a passenger were not injured. The suspect vehicle continued southbound following the shooting.

The cases were assigned to the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit. Detectives identified the suspect vehicle as a gray Nissan Rogue and the driver as 61-year-old Curtis Reed of Wilmington. A warrant was obtained to search the vehicle.

On March 18, 2026, members of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team located Reed driving in Wilmington and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to Troop 2, where detectives executed the search warrant and recovered a loaded handgun concealed inside the vehicle.

Reed was charged in connection with both incidents. For the February 6 case, he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $22,000 unsecured bond. In the March 10 case, he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $24,600 cash bond.

He is facing two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony) and four counts of Aggravated Menacing (Felony).
