Police have arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred late Wednesday morning in Wilmington.
At approximately 11:05 a.m. on March 25, officers with the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 1600 block of West 6th Street following reports of gunfire. While in the area, officers observed two male juveniles fleeing near the 500 block of North Scott Street and attempted to make contact.
Police said one of the juveniles fled on foot, while the second, a 17-year-old male, was taken into custody a short time later without incident. During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.
Investigators determined that two unknown suspects fired multiple rounds toward the two juveniles, and the 17-year-old returned fire.
The juvenile has been charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $41,000 cash-only bail.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Crime Gun Intelligence Center at 302-654-5151.
