A late-morning crash on Interstate 95 temporarily shut down one of Delaware’s busiest corridors and left multiple people injured, according to initial reports.
The collision was dispatched just after 10:45 a.m. Monday, and a significant emergency response to the northbound lanes on the Brandywine Creek Bridge. First responders arrived to find a the crash stretching across portions of the roadway.
Preliminary information indicates that 11 people were evaluated at the scene. The majority of individuals were transported to Wilmington Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The extent of injuries has not been released.
The crash brought traffic to a standstill along the northbound side of Interstate 95, at one point backing up past Frawaly Stadium. Motorists were diverted or delayed as emergency personnel worked at the scene, assisting victims, and clearing debris from the roadway.
Just over an hour after the crash, crews were able to reopen the highway, restoring the flow of traffic and allowing normal travel to resume.
Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. No additional details have been released.
