Harrington Chicken House Fire Damage Over A Million Dollars

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed multiple structures at a poultry operation in Harrington.

The incident occurred on April 15, 2026, just after 3:00 p.m., when the Harrington Fire Company and assisting mutual aid units were dispatched to the 300 block of Hayfield Road for a reported chicken house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered one chicken house fully engulfed in flames, with the fire extending to a second structure. Additional resources were requested as crews worked to contain the rapidly spreading fire.

Firefighters ultimately reported that two chicken houses and an additional structure were destroyed. Both poultry houses were occupied with birds at the time of the fire.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded and are continuing to examine the origin and cause. No injuries were reported.

Damage from the fire is estimated to exceed $1 million.
