Truck Keeps Rolling After Driver Thrown, Fatal Crash Under Investigation

File

The Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Sunday night in Hartly.

On May 3, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Ford F-350 was traveling northbound on Butterpat Road south of Bear Pond Road in Hartly. The preliminary investigation revealed that the F-350 failed to negotiate a curve, the unrestrained driver over-corrected, and was ejected from the truck. It is believed that the driver’s door was not properly secured at the time of the crash. The unoccupied F-350 continued northbound and ultimately came to a stop in a field.

The driver, 31-year-old Edilzar Chun-Chilel of Hartly was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
