Two men have been charged in connection with an attempted armed robbery that occurred during a vehicle exchange in Stanton earlier this year.
Police said officers responded to the area of Mill Road at approximately 12:56 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, after receiving a report of a robbery that had just occurred.
The investigation determined that a victim had traded a Volkswagen to 18-year-old Reese Hendricks in exchange for a Honda the previous day. Reese Hendricks (L) later contacted the victim and requested that the vehicles be exchanged back to their original owners. The victim agreed and met Reese Hendricks, who was accompanied by 38-year-old Eugene Hendricks (R), to complete the exchange.
During the meeting, the victim discovered the Volkswagen had sustained functional damage. As the dispute continued, Reese Hendricks briefly left the area before returning wearing different clothing and a mask. Police allege that Eugene Hendricks then pointed a handgun at the victim and a second individual who had accompanied the victim, demanding the return of the Honda. Before leaving the scene, investigators said the two men removed property from the second victim’s vehicle before fleeing in the Honda.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Unit assumed the investigation and later identified Reese Hendricks and Eugene Hendricks as the suspects.
Detectives arrested Reese Hendricks at his Newark residence on July 1 without incident. He was charged with two counts of Attempted Robbery First Degree, Conspiracy Second Degree, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony. Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $44,000 cash bail.

He was charged with two counts of Attempted Robbery First Degree, two counts of Aggravated Menacing, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Conspiracy Second Degree, and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited. Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $197,000 cash bail.
