Update: Motorcycle Crash Near Maryland State Line Sends One To Trauma By Air

At approximately 6:25 this morning, New Castle County Paramedics, Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company and Delaware State Police helicopter were dispatched to the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Dixie Line Road for a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.

Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found the patient, 53-year-old male, in care of emergency medical technicians (EMT’s) from the responding fire company. The patient, the driver of the motorcycle, sustained injuries to his leg.

The patient was treated on scene for his injuries by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was transferred to Christiana Hospital via Delaware State Police helicopter.

The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport. It’s believed that at least one other person was transported to Union Hospital via ambulance.

Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.

Breaking Report

Newark – Rescue crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, along with New Castle County Paramedics, Delaware State Police and Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) have responded to Old Baltimore Pike at the Maryland State line for reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.

Upon arrival, crews reported that four people were injured. Initial reported indicated that three would be transported by ground ambulance. The fourth patient would be transported by air.

After being evaluated the driver of the vehicle refused transport, a passenger was transported to Union Hospital in Elkton, Maryland and the motorcycle rider is en route to the trauma center at Christiana Hospital via Trooper 4 with serious injuries to his lower extremities. No word on the fourth patient at this time.

Firefighters have shut down Old Baltimore Pike has been shut down.
