A fire that heavily damaged a Gumboro, Delaware home early this morning has been ruled accidental by deputy fire marshals with the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office, according to Michael Chionchio Assistant State Fire Marshal.
Chionchio said firefighters from the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene around 9:00 am with flames engulfing a house located in the 18000 block of Little Lane near the Maryland state line. Mutual aid fire companies from Delaware and Maryland assisted Gumboro on the scene. There were no reported injuries.
State fire investigators responded to the scene to search for the fire’s origin and cause. The fire originated inside the chimney for a wood stove and was caused by the ignition of combustibles within the chimney.
The structure suffered severe damage that was estimated at $100,000. Two adults have been displaced. The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance to those displaced.
