“Gunfire Damages Brandywine Water Tower Overnight Putting It Out Of Commission”

Brandywine – Police are investigating gunfire that apparently left a water tower damaged overnight.

At around 10:30 last evening, Friday, May 1, New Castle County Police responded to the Stratford Apartments located at 3120 Naamans Road for reports of shots fired, according to residents in the complex.

One resident said arriving police canvased the area with their flashlights looking for evidence and left the area.

At around 11:30 residents said they heard another round of gunfire. This time the sound of the rounds hitting the tower was very loud and vibrated nearby windows. It’s not clear if police responded to the second round of gunfire.

Crews with Suez Water were called out to the scene at 11:45 to assess the damage. At least two shots appear to have struck the tower causing it to leak water heavily, according to the crews on scene.

The water tower will have to be taken offline to repair the damage according to Suez.

This is a developing story.
