Troopers Arrest Man In Connection With Dollar Store Robberies

The Delaware State Police arrested 62-year-old Barry King of Newark, in connection with two Dollar General robberies, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incidents occurred at two separate Dollar General locations. The first robbery occurred at 1679 Pulaski Highway, Bear, on December 26, 2020, at approximately 7:04 p.m., and the second robbery occurred at 1403 DuPont Parkway, New Castle, on December 28, 2020, at approximately 5:55 p.m. In each incident, the suspect entered the Dollar General location and produced a handwritten note to an employee demanding money and indicated he was armed with a gun. The suspect obtained an undisclosed of money from the first robbery on Pulaski Highway, but was unsuccessful in the second robbery located at DuPont Parkway.

Through investigative leads, troopers identified the suspect as Barry King, said Hatchell.

On January 04, 2021, at approximately 9:15 PM, King was pulled over by Troopers taken into custody without incident.

King was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
Attempted Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony) – 2 counts
King was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $110,000.00 cash bond.
