Over Fifty Residents Displaced After Edgemoor-Area Apartment Fire

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this afternoon’s fire that caused major damage to a Wilmington apartment building, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly before 5:00 pm, occurred at the Lighthouse Hill Apartments located at 1206 Terra Hill Road in Edgemoor near the Governor Printz Boulevard. The Brandywine Hundred Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the roof of the three-story occupied building.

State fire investigators are on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. The fire severely damaged the building that contained twelve apartments. The adjoining building was evacuated due to the close proximately to the fire building. Over 50 residents have been displaced.

Heavy fire damage was estimated to exceed $1,000,000. There were no reported injuries. The building’s fire alarm system activated alerting those residents inside the building. The American Red Cross and apartment management are providing emergency assistance to those residents that have been displaced.

This fire remains under investigation said Chionchio.
