County Police Announce Passing Of Two Retired K-9 Officers

The New Castle County Division of Police announced the passing of two retired Canines (K-9s) Dayan and Max on Thursday.

Officials said Canine (K-9) Dayan was a Belgian Malinois from France.  He was a dual-purpose K-9, certified in both patrol operations as well as narcotics detection.  Over the span of his career, 2010 to 2015, he had over 73 criminal apprehensions and located a number of lost or missing juveniles and senior citizens.  He has also assisted in seizing over $500,000 USC in suspected drug proceeds and hundreds of pounds of narcotics.  K-9 Dayan worked with Retired K-9 Handler Joseph Rago.

Canine (K-9) Max, 13 years of age, was a German Shepherd from France and began his career in January 2012 with M/Cpl. Stefani Cerkez.  K-9 Max was also a dual- purpose K-9 and certified in narcotics detection.  He retired in August 2019 and lived with his handler until his passing.  He was a loyal, devoted and well-loved pup who truly enjoyed the full perks of retirement.
