Man Charged With Kidnapping Two Children, 1 And 8

Wilmington Police have arrested a man on vehicle theft and kidnapping charges.

On February 12 at approximately 7:52 p.m., police were dispatched to the 100 block of North Dupont Street in reference to the theft of an occupied vehicle. Responding officers learned that the owner of the vehicle was unloading his car, which had his two children, a 1-year-old and an 8-year-old, inside – when a subject got into the vehicle and drove off.

Additional officers responded to the area and located the vehicle several blocks away, in the 1800 block of Linden Street. Officers located the children, unharmed, and observed the suspect, 35-year-old Hakeem Cintron, fled from the vehicle. He was taken into custody a short time later in the area of South Dupont and Elm Streets.

Cintron has been charged with Kidnapping (First Degree) – Two Counts, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Conspiracy (Second Degree), Reckless Endangering (Second Degree), Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Mischief Under $1,000.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $105,600 cash-only bail.
