Georgetown Man Killed In Tragic Accident Saturday

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Georgetown area on Saturday evening.

Officials said on May 13, 2023, at approximately 5:02 p.m., a 2020 Ford Eco Sport operated by a 27-year-old male from Georgetown was traveling westbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway, (Route 9) just west of Fawn Lane.

For unknown reasons, the Ford exited the north edge of the roadway and began to rotate in a clockwise direction as it continued in a northwesterly direction. The driver’s side of the Ford then struck a large tree off the roadway.

The 27-year-old male operator of the Ford was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

Lewes-Georgetown Highway was closed at Fawn Lane for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
