Four Homes Damaged In Million Dollar Fire

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a house fire that occurred in Smyrna this morning according to Delaware State Fire Marshal Chief Deputy B. Scott Bullock.

Bullock said on June 5th, 2023, at 3:14 am, the Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna was alerted by 911, to a house fire in the 100 block of Furies Street in the Ashland Development southwest of the corporate limits of Smyrna.  Fire department personnel arrived with heavy fire involving a single-family dwelling, with exposures to several other dwellings.  The home was occupied at the time of the fire and all occupants safely evacuated the home.

Several nearby Kent and New Castle County fire departments responded to assist with the suppression.  The fire was placed under control at 5:15 this morning.

Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.  Deputy Fire Marshals determined the fire originated on a rear porch to the residence and the cause remains under investigation.  Four other dwellings sustained exposure damage.  No injuries were reported, and the Red Cross of Delmarva is assisting the home’s occupants.

Damages are estimated at over $1,000,000.
