The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a house fire that occurred on Tuesday in Dover.
Chief Deputy Brian Schad, of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office said the Cheswold Fire Company arrived in the 100 block of Delshire Drive to find flames coming from the rear of a residence.
Schad said State fire investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Their investigation concluded that the fire was accidental, sparked by discarded smoking materials according to Shad.
A firefighter suffered a heat-related injury and was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for medical attention. Additionally, a resident of the home was evaluated by Kent County Paramedics but declined further treatment. No other injuries were reported.
The fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damages. The American Red Cross is currently assisting the affected family.
