Troopers Update Fatal Crash On Capitol Trail

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred early this morning in Newark.

Officials said the collision happened at the intersection of Capitol Trail and Brewster Drive at approximately 7:23 a.m. A silver 2014 Toyota 4Runner, traveling east on Capitol Trail, failed to stop at a traffic light and collided with a white 2006 Cadillac DTS traveling north on Brewster Drive.

The impact resulted in a collision that took the life of the 61-year-old male Cadillac driver from Newark. The driver, whose identity is currently withheld pending notification of his family, was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the 4Runner was uninjured

The crash investigation caused the road to be closed for approximately four hours while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene. During this time, traffic was rerouted, leading to congestion on surrounding roads, including Red Mill Road, Harmony Road, and Ruthar Road.
