The Laurel Fire Department, with assistance from mutual aid fire companies, responded to the scene and discovered both an outbuilding and an adjacent vacant, unoccupied dwelling ablaze. Fire crews quickly worked to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Delaware Deputy State Fire Marshals were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. The investigation determined that the fire had been intentionally set in the outbuilding. The total damage from the fire is estimated to be approximately $20,000.
