Police Seeking Information In Cold Case Homicide

File

On the night of July 18, 2012, authorities responded to a report of a shooting in the Belvedere community near Wilmington. Police say just after 11:00 p.m., officers arrived at 13 Clyde Street to find 28-year-old Anthony D. Fitzgerald suffering from gunshot wounds sustained in what investigators identified as a drive-by shooting.

Information from the time indicates that emergency medical personnel transported Fitzgerald to Christiana Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 30.

The vehicle involved in the shooting was identified as a 1997 dark green Honda Civic. Witnesses reported that it appeared black under the night sky. The car had been reported stolen earlier that same day, and police believe it was used in the commission of the crime police said. Two white male suspects with short blond hair were reportedly seen fleeing the scene in a dark-colored vehicle according to news reports from the time.

Despite investigative efforts and appeals to the public, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The case remains open and is currently classified as a cold case. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement urging the public to come forward with any leads that could help bring closure to Fitzgerald’s family and the community.
