Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in July following an extensive investigation.
According to police, the incident took place on July 21 at approximately 10:02 p.m., when officers from the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 700 block of North Franklin Street for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located a 50-year-old male victim, identified as Donnell Seeney, suffering from gunshot wounds. Seeney was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
Detective Derek Haines of the Criminal Investigations Division led the investigation, which ultimately identified 31-year-old Nicodemus Morris as the suspect. The case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury on September 2, resulting in an indictment against Morris.
On October 28, Wilmington Police executed a search warrant in the 500 block of West 24th Street, where Morris was taken into custody without incident.
Morris has been charged with Murder in the First Degree, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,100,000 cash-only bail.
