Woman Killed On Christmas Eve Identified

Wilmington Police continue to investigate a fatal assault that occurred on Christmas Eve in the city.

Officers were called to the 200 block of North Lincoln Street on December 24 at approximately 6:03 p.m., Christmas Eve, for a reported assault. Upon arrival, police located a 68-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died from her injuries.

During the initial response, police located 50-year-old Dario Griner inside the residence and took him into custody without incident. The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division, who, through the course of the investigation, identified Griner as the suspect in the fatal assault.

Authorities later identified the victim as Carean Tucker.

Griner has been charged with Murder in the First Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $563,000 cash-only bail.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Wilmington Police Department
