Pair Charged Federally After Discovery Of 400 Grams Of Fentanyl

Two Wilmington men have been charged in federal court following an investigation that authorities say uncovered large quantities of fentanyl and several firearms during searches conducted March 10 in Wilmington.

Court documents state that Marcus Warren and Donavan McGriff, both 35, were identified during a drug investigation involving federal and local law enforcement agencies. Investigators executed search warrants for the two men, their residences, and a vehicle associated with McGriff. Both men were inside the vehicle when it was searched.

Authorities reported that the search of the vehicle led to the discovery of more than 400 grams of fentanyl pills. A subsequent search of Warren’s residence allegedly resulted in the seizure of approximately one kilogram of suspected fentanyl and three firearms, including a privately made firearm commonly referred to as a “ghost gun” that did not contain a serial number. Investigators said a search of McGriff’s residence led to the recovery of an additional firearm.

Warren has been charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

McGriff has been charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Any sentence in federal court is determined by a judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Federal prosecutors are handling the case.
