A Dover woman is facing felony charges after a traffic stop early Sunday, according to the Delaware State Police.
Authorities said the incident occurred on April 19, 2026, at approximately 4:40 a.m., when a trooper observed a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on Bay Road near Transportation Circle in Dover. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was identified as 33-year-old Mirna Lopez.
During the stop, the trooper observed multiple signs of impairment according to police. Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted, after which Lopez was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Officials said an inventory search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of approximately 0.20 grams of cocaine.
A subsequent records check determined that Lopez had four prior DUI-related convictions. She was supsequently charged with a fifth offense DUI.
Lopez was transported to Troop 3, where she was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7. She was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $8,000 cash bond.
In addition to felony DUI, Lopez faces charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended or revoked, speeding, and failure to have proof of insurance.
