A 13-year-old male has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following an assault involving fireworks that left one man critically injured earlier this month in Wilmington.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:34 p.m. on July 3 in the area of East 9th and North Pine streets. Investigators said multiple juveniles assaulted a 31-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman using fireworks, including a Roman candle. The woman was taken to a hospital, treated for her injuries, and later released. The man was also transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The investigation was led by Detective Ryan Kilmon of the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Detectives identified a 13-year-old male as one of the suspects, and he was taken into custody without incident on July 21 in the 600 block of East 10th Street.
The juvenile has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and first-degree conspiracy. He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center after bail was set at $255,000 cash only.
