13-Year-Old Held On $65,000 Cash Bail

Wilmington – On Wednesday May 24, 2017 at approximately 3:06 p.m., Uniform Services Division officer’s assigned to “E” Platoon were on proactive patrol in the area of the 200 block of W. 7th Street when they heard gunfire in the immediate area, according to police.

Officials said the officer’s observed a black male juvenile fleeing as he observed the police. A brief foot pursuit ensued where the juvenile discarded what was found to be a .25 Caliber semi-automatic handgun prior to being taken into custody without incident, said police. A search incident to arrest of the juvenile revealed additional .25 caliber rounds of ammunition on his person,  according to authorities.

The juvenile, identified as a 13-year-old male of Wilmington, was transported to police headquarters and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited-Juvenile, Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited-Juvenile,  (2) Counts of Reckless Endangering in the 1st Degree and Receiving a Stolen Firearm

The juvenile defendant was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $65,000 cash bail.
