Motorcycle Slams Into Parked Car One Dead

Bear – Delaware State Police are investigation a crash that occurred at around 9 p.m. last night. Police said that John T. McDevitt, 63, of Bear, DE, was operating a 2002 Indian motorcycle and was traveling in an eastbound direction on the right hand shoulder of DE Route 71 (Red Lion Road) just west of Delilah Drive. The front of the McDevitt’s motorcycle then struck the rear of a unoccupied 2005 Ford Explorer which was parked on the right hand shoulder of the roadway.

The force of the impact caused the motorcycle to become embedded in the rear of the Explorer. McDevitt, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was ejected from the motorcycle and struck the rear of the Ford. He then came to rest on the right hand shoulder.

John McDevitt was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead. It is unknown if alcohol or drug use were  contributing factors in this crash.
