Four Horses Killed In Early Morning Barn Fire

Update: State fire investigators have determined that this fire was accidental in nature and caused by a heat lamp igniting nearby combustible material inside the barn.  

Original Story

Millsboro – Early Wednesday morning, March 22, 2017 fire crews from Indian River, Millsboro , and Lewes fire departments responded to a report of a barn on fire in the 24000 block of Cannon Road in Millsboro.

Upon arrival firefighters found the structure, which housed livestock, including multiple horses, fully involved.

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s fire,according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio

Chionchio said that the blaze was reported shortly before 3:00 am. The Indian River Fire Company arrived on the scene with the approximate 20 foot by 75 foot livestock building in flames.

State fire investigators were called to the scene and are currently searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Several animals perished in the fire including four horses.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $50,000. There were no other reported injuries.
