Newark – March 14, 2017 – The Newark Police Department, through an extensive overnight investigation, has determined that this case has been falsely reported. Charges for falsely reporting an incident are forthcoming, according to police.

Newark – On Monday March 13, 2017 at approximately 8:13 p.m., the Newark Police responded to the 300 block of Christina Mill Drive for a report of a robbery, according to Newark Police Sergeant Gerald J. Bryda.
Bryda said that officers made contact with the 24-year-old female victim who stated that she was approached from behind while in the parking lot of the Christina Mill apartment complex, and forced into her apartment with a weapon to her back.
Once inside the apartment, the suspect stole jewelry from the victim and then fled the area, according to Bryda. The victim described the suspect as an unknown race male, between 5’4” and 6’00” tall, wearing a mask and gloves. The suspect had an undetermined accent when he talked.
Just over an hour after the incident, at 9:20, the University of Delaware sent a UD Alert to students and staff.
UD Alert: Newark Police Department is investigating an attempted kidnapping which occurred at Christina Mill Apartments. The suspect is described as a male wearing dark clothing and gloves, and the suspect spoke with an unknown accent.
The suspect implied that he had a weapon. Members of our community are reminded to be vigilant. If you see something, say something. Be aware of your surroundings and use well-lit paths. Although Newark Police have not publicly associated last nights incident with the serial kidnapping cases, being investigated by New Castle County and Pennsylvania State Police, the New Castle County Police Department was on scene at Christina Mill Apartments during last nights investigation.
State Troopers from the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit circled over the area for over an hour while Newark and New Castle County Police officers searched the area.
