Two Laurel Men Charged With Sexual Abuse Of A Child In Two Unrelated Cases

Laurel – During the month of April 2017, The Laurel Police Department initiated an investigation related to allegations of possible child abuse/ sexual assault, according to Laurel Police. As a result of the investigation on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 Laurel Police Department arrested Omar Cameron, 41 of Laurel, Delaware.

Cameron was charged with four counts of Rape 1st Degree, four counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact 2nd Degree, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Sexual Abuse of a Child 1st Degree, four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Possession of Marijuana. Cameron was video arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to the Department of Corrections after his failure to post $804,100.00 cash bail.

In the second case the Laurel Police Department arrested 26-year-old Joel Sanchez-Melendez of Laurel, on April 21, 2017, after investigations of alleged repeated sexual abuse, according to Laurel Police Department Spokesman Christopher Story.

Story said that Joel Sanchez-Melendez was arrested and charged with five counts of Rape 1st Degree, one count of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Joel Sanchez-Melendez was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 in Georgetown, DE and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $271,000.00 cash bond.
