Original Story

Wilmington – New Castle County Police (NCCPD) continue to investigate the abduction of a 4-year-old girl from the community of Village of Plum Run. She was located about two hours later in the area of Banning Park.

Yesterday April 6, 2017 at about 7:00 p.m., County Police were dispatched to the 4800 block of Sugar Plum Court in reference to a reported child abduction that had just occurred, according to NCCPD County Police Spokesman JP Piser.

Piser said Witnesses observed a 4-year-old girl playing outside when she was approached by a suspect described as a white male with dark hair driving a dark-colored sedan with tinted windows. The suspect took her to his vehicle and fled.

Officers searched the area until about 8:45 p.m. when a passerby located the child in the area of Banning Park. After the child was located, she was taken by ambulance to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children for treatment and evaluation. During the evaluation, investigators discovered evidence of a sexual assault, according to Piser. The child was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries and reunited with her family.

Police conducted a thorough search of the area, receiving assistance from multiple agencies including the Delaware State Police and the FBI. New Castle County Police Detectives worked this case through the night searching for evidence and video surveillance. Detectives continue their investigation into this incident and are currently canvassing the area and searching for additional surveillance video.
