Newark – Newark Police are investigating an attempted residential burglary that occurred on Tuesday, Many 9, 2017 at 12:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Pickett Lane in the Cherry Hill neighborhood, according to Newark Police Spokesman Fred Nelson.

Nelson said an acquaintance of the homeowner reported that she heard banging on the rear door of the residence and that it sounded as if someone was attempting to kick the door in.

She looked out of the back door and saw a stocky male wearing all black run away from the door and jump the fence.

The acquaintance contacted the homeowner, who was not home at the time, by phone and the police were notified approximately 45 minutes later. Officers found minor damage, estimated to be $30, to the area surrounding the rear door.
