Police: No Evidence 1-Year-Old Child Accident Was Intentional, Child Not Run-Over


Wilmington – New Castle County Police have arrested 20-year-old Elijah Meredith in connection with a hit-and-run that left a 1-year-old injured in the community of Tuxedo Park, according to NCCPD Spokesman JP Piser.

Piser said through an investigation, Traffic Services Unit Detectives determined that Elijah Meredith struck the 1-year-old child with his Mazda sedan. Detectives learned Elijah Meredith attempted to leave a residence in the unit block of Roosevelt Ave when he struck the child with his vehicle, according to Piser. Detectives discovered no evidence to indicate that this was an intentional act and furthermore found no evidence that the child was run-over by the vehicle.

Elijah Meredith left the scene, but was later located and arrested, according to Piser.

Elijah Meredith was charged with leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, failure to report a collision resulting in injury, driving while suspended and failure to have insurance in possession. He was arraigned and released on $800 unsecured bail. He was further ordered to have no contact with the victim.
