Big Rig Overturns In Stanton, Photos From The Scene

Stanton – At approximately 7:55 p.m., last night Monday June 12, 2017, Delaware State Police along with members of the Mill Creek Fire Company, Belvedere HAZMAT, DNREC ERT,  DelDOT, Fire Police and crews from B & F Towing responded to the intersection of northbound DE Rt. 7 (Limestone Road) and DE Rt. 4 (Stanton-Christiana Road) for a single vehicle crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer.

Arriving crews found a Georgetown based chicken hauler turned on its side with fuel leaking in the roadway. The driver was able to remove himself from the vehicle with the help of a volunteer fireman who was passing by at the time of the accident.

The Delaware State Police have not released an official cause for the accident but it looks like the trucks load shifted as it rounded the corner onto Route 7, causing the truck to tip and roll on it’s side.

DNREC and Belvedere HAZMAT crews worked for several hours to remove diesel from the trucks fuel tanks and to clean up the spilled fluids from the roadway. No injuries were reported.

As a result of the crash the entire intersection of Rt. 7 and Rt. 4 is closed to traffic as crews work to clean up the fuel spill and upright the tractor-trailer. Traffic was diverted in the area for over four hours as crews worked to clear the scene. The intersection was reopened just after 12:00 a.m. this morning.
