Saturday Crash Traps Two, Sends Four To Hospital, One In Critical


Claymont – At approximately 5:05 p.m. on Saturday June 10, 2017, New Castle County Paramedics, Brandywine Hundred, and Claymont Fire Companies were dispatched to the intersection of I-495 Southbound and Philadelphia Pike off ramp for a motor vehicle crash with multiple patients, according to New Castle County Paramedics Spokesman Yvonne Russell.

Russell said upon arrival New Castle County Paramedics found two vehicles involved in a crash with a total of 4 patients. All patients were transported to Christiana Hospital.

The first patient a 71-year-old male was confined to the vehicle for 23 minutes while fire personnel utilized special equipment to cut the vehicle. The patient suffered injuries to his head, chest and shoulder. The patient was transported via Claymont Fire Company ambulance in serious condition. County Paramedics accompanied and continued care of the patient.

The second patient a 72-year-old female was confined to the vehicle for 33 minutes while fire personnel utilized special equipment to cut the vehicle. The patient suffered injuries to her head, arm, leg and back. The patient was transported via Brandywine Hundred Fire Company ambulance in critical condition. County Paramedics accompanied and continued care of the patient.

The third patient a 26-year-old male removed himself from the vehicle and suffered injuries to his head, neck and ankle. The patient was transported via Claymont Fire Company ambulance in stable condition. County Paramedics accompanied and continued care of the patient.

The fourth patient 26-year-old female removed herself from the vehicle and suffered injuries to her ankle and back. The patient was transported via Delaware State Police helicopter. The patient was in serious condition.
