Firefighters Respond To NCC Airport For Reports Of Fire In The Tower

New Castle – Yesterday at approximately 4:00 pm fire crews from across New Castle County, along with Delaware River and Bay Authority Police (DRBA) responded to the New Castle County Airport for reports of a fire in the air traffic control tower.

Responding units arrived on scene to find that employees had already evacuated the tower. Reports from the scene indicate that arriving crews could smell smoke from an electrical hazard but no flames were showing.

Crews worked for just under an hour to locate the source of the smell, eventually finding the issue to be an electrical component of some sort. The building was cleared and returned to the control of the DRBA.
