Farmer And Fire Department Work Together To Save Building

Rising Sun – Yesterday at around 2:00 pm members of the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Company responded to a property on Calvert Road for reports of a barn fire.

A passerby called dispatch to report fire coming from a Cover-all Barn filled with hay bales on the property. The property owner along with 25 firefighters responded to the barn to work the fire.

A quick response by the fire department contained the fire to the hay bales only, allowing only minimal damage to the membrane tent structure, according to State Fire Marshals. The owner assisted by operating farm equipment and removed approximately 100 hay bales from within the structure. Approximately 60 sustained fire damage.

Fire Marshals estimated the damage to the structure to be $2,000.00 and the hay bales at $6,000.00.
