Lightning Strike Sets Cecil County Home Ablaze

Port Deposit – As heavy thunderstorms and lightning passed through the area yesterday, Friday July 14, 2017, at around 3:48 pm, a Port Deposit family heard a loud crack near their home. At the same the family noticed their television was intermittently going out, however they continued on with their activities, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Just moments later a family member opened the door leading to the garage and encountered heavy smoke. The family quickly alerted 911 dispatch to the fire.  Water Witch Volunteer Fire Company responded with 25 firefighters to two-story home on Rowland Road and quickly began knocking down the fire.

Crews were able to bring the fire control within abut 15 minutes, containing the fire to the garage. Maryland State Fire Marshals estimated the loss to the structure at $10,000.00 and the contents at another $10,000.00.

No injuries were reported.
