SUV Crosses Over Elkton Road, Slams Into Newark Home

Newark – Newark Police, along with Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, responded to the 800 blk of Elkton Road this afternoon for reports of vehicle stricking a home.

Reports from the scene indicate that the driver may have experienced a medial issue before they crossed the median and slammed into the home.  The driver was driving westbound towards Elkton, Md. when they crossed over oncoming traffic, taking out a traffic sign and narrowly missing a utility pole, before coming to rest at the doorstep of the home.

The two occupants of the home, a long time Aetna member and his wife were sitting in the home when they heard what they thought was thunder. The two seemed a bit shaken, but they were checked out by medical and declined to be transported.

The driver was helped from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with undetermined injuries.

City Of Newark Code Enforcement inspected the home and found that the vehicle did not cause any structural damage to the home. A heavy concrete porch underneath the destroyed wood deck stopped the vehicle from entering the home.
