New Castle County Police Officer Rescues Three From Burning Vehicle

Bear – New Castle County Police, along with Delaware State Police, Christiana Fire Company and area Fire Police are currently on scene at the intersection of Porter Road and and Joan Drive, investigating an accident that reportedly sent three to the hospital this afternoon.

Reports from the scene indicate that a red Ford pickup truck slammed into the back of a dump truck, injuring the pickup’s three occupants. Witnesses said the pickup slammed into the back of a dump truck that was sitting at a red light, forcing it into a nearby culvert.

As the accident occurred a New Castle County police officer, who was also sitting at the light, noticed that the truck had caught fire. The officer quickly jumped out of his patrol vehicle and started pulling the occupants to safety, while calling for fire crews.

The officer, with the assistance of employees from a nearby business, helped the three patients to the side of the road as they waited for rescue crews to arrive. Witnesses at the scene indicated that two women and a small child were all transported via ambulance to nearby hospitals.

Additional reports indicate that one of the patients was taken to the trauma center with a head injury.
