Newark Neighborhood Targeted By Thieves, Multiple Cars ‘Rifled Through’

Newark – The Newark Police Department is investigating several unlawful entries of vehicles in the Abbotsford Development that occurred between 9/2/17 at 9:30pm and 9/3/17 at 9:50 am, according to Newark Police Spokesman Fred Nelson.

Nelson said one resident, a 33-year-old man from E. Galloway Court, reported that he likely left his window down overnight and his wallet was stolen from his vehicle. The wallet was later recovered near his vehicle, however, the cash had been removed, added Nelson.

Another resident from E. Galloway Court, a 43-year-old man, reported both of his vehicles were left unlocked and had been rummaged through, however, nothing was stolen. A 33-year-old woman from Tantallon Court reported that her purse was stolen from her unlocked vehicle, however, it was recovered near Abbotsford Lane with nothing missing from inside of it, according to Nelson.

Two additional residents from Tantallon Court, a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, reported their unlocked vehicles had been rifled through, but nothing was missing.

Nelson is reminding residents to always lock their vehicles and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police department.
