Bank Robbery Suspect Dies In House Fire As Police Close In

Update: The man who died in a house fire last night was wanted for four Baltimore-area bank robberies, according to the FBI. As Federal Task Force members arrived at the home the man barricaded himself in the home before setting it on fire, according to reports.

Rising Sun – Last night, November 12, 2017, at approximately 9:25 Maryland State Police, trying to serve a warrant in the 300 block of  McGrady Road, were met with a barricaded susject. Shortly thereafter Troopers alerted dispatch that the a fire had started in the home.

Upon arrival fire crews reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the single family home. Responding fire crews could not immediately begin to fight the fire due to the threat posed by the barricaded subject.  Fire crews were able to determine that the subject had passed out due to the heavy smoke and made entry into the home. Upon entry crews reported a heavy odor of gas.

Once crews entered the home a search for the subject was initiated. Reports from the scene indicate that the subject was barricaded in the basement and died as a result of te fire.

Firefighters from Rising Sun, Water Witch, Perryville and Northeast fire companies were on scene.

It’s unclear why the officials were serving a warrant at the residence but it’s believed that the FBI was on scene during the incident.
